This large, three-bedroom apartment in a former police station presented us with several challenges. The artistic couple with two young boys had a precise design objective: beauty and order, which is right up our alley. It was full of odd architectural details including six different ceiling heights. We opted to level the ceiling, pack out walls, create symmetry, clean up lines and improve circulation throughout. We completely renovated the kitchen and master bathroom. We built a home office inside a large closet with a barn door off the main living/dining space. We refinished and lightened the floors, which resulted in a more grounded, natural feeling. The couple’s desire for natural materials guided fabric, furniture and rug selections. The combination of elements creates a calm oasis with plenty of space for family fun.
